Why most business websites underperform

A website that looks acceptable can still lose you work every day. Slow loading on mobile costs you visitors before the page renders. Vague headlines make a good business look interchangeable with a bad one. Buried contact routes turn interested people into people who go back to Google.

These problems rarely show up in a redesign brief because they are invisible from the inside. You know what your business does, so the copy reads fine to you.

How we approach a build

We treat the website as a commercial instrument rather than a brochure. Before any design work, we agree what a successful enquiry looks like, which pages carry commercial weight, and what evidence a prospect needs before they get in touch.

Design and build then follow that structure. Every page has a job, a primary action and a measurable outcome.

Most business websites fail for unglamorous reasons. The homepage explains the company instead of the offer. The pricing is hidden. The contact form asks for nine fields. Nothing is measured, so nothing improves.

Digetize designs and builds websites around the decisions your customers are actually making. We start with the enquiry you want, work backwards through the pages and questions that lead to it, and design the interface that removes friction at each step.

The result is a site that is quick on a phone on a patchy connection, legible to someone skimming in fifteen seconds, and structured so search engines can understand what you do and where you do it.

What the work involves

Inside a web design engagement.

Conversion-first structure

Page hierarchy, messaging and calls to action are planned against real buying questions, not a template outline.

Performance as a requirement

Core Web Vitals targets are set at the start and held through build. Fast is a specification, not an optimisation phase.

Search-ready foundations

Clean URLs, correct heading structure, crawlable navigation and structured data are built in rather than retrofitted.

Accessible by default

Keyboard navigation, contrast, focus states and semantic markup to WCAG 2.2 AA principles — which also improves usability for everyone.

Content you can edit

A content model that lets your team update pages, services and locations without needing a developer for every change.

Built to extend

Component architecture that supports new services, new locations and new landing pages without a rebuild.

Specialisms

Where web design goes deeper.

We publish a dedicated page when a specialism has genuinely different considerations — not for every service line we could theoretically name.

Process

How a web design project runs.

Six stages, each with a defined output and a point where you sign off before we continue.

  1. 01

    Discovery

Commercial goals, audience, competitors, current analytics and the enquiry you want more of.

  2. 02

    Strategy

Sitemap, messaging hierarchy, conversion paths and technical requirements agreed in writing.

  3. 03

    Design

Design system and key templates, reviewed on real devices rather than as flat images.

  4. 04

    Build

Component-based front-end build with performance and accessibility checks at each stage.

  5. 05

    Launch

Redirect mapping, analytics verification, search console setup and a monitored go-live.

  6. 06

    Iterate

Post-launch review against the conversion goals agreed at discovery, then targeted improvements.

Web Design

Web Design questions, answered straight.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on the number of templates, the complexity of the content and whether ecommerce or integrations are involved. A focused brochure site for a small business sits at the lower end; a multi-service site with a location architecture and a CMS sits higher. We scope in writing before any commitment, so you see the number before you decide.

How long does a website take to build?

A straightforward site typically runs six to ten weeks from kick-off. The variable is almost always content: projects that stall usually stall waiting for copy, images or sign-off, not development.

Do you work with WordPress?

Yes, where it suits the project. WordPress is a reasonable choice when a large editorial team needs familiar tooling. For marketing sites where speed and search performance matter most, we generally recommend a modern framework with a headless content source, which is faster and has a smaller security surface.

Will I be able to edit the site myself?

Yes. We set up a content model matched to how you actually work, and we train your team on it at handover. Editing a service page or publishing a blog post should not require a developer.

What happens to my search rankings when the site changes?

A redesign is the most common way businesses accidentally lose rankings. We map every existing URL to its replacement, implement permanent redirects, preserve the pages that already earn traffic, and monitor Search Console closely for the first weeks after launch.

Do you provide the copy?

We can. Some clients write their own against our content plan, some want us to write everything, and most land in between. We will tell you honestly which parts benefit most from professional writing.

Thinking about web design?

Tell us where you are now and what you need to change. We will tell you honestly whether web design is the right place to start, or whether something else would move the needle first.
